Bevelt learned to make cremas from his mother, Elleonord, in Arcahaie, Haiti.
The son of Joseph Louissaint and Elleonord, he began making cremas in 1980, at seventeen.
Learned from Elleonord.
His mother’s teaching was his introduction to cremas. That family connection remains part of the history behind Bev Cremas.
The wedding.
At seventeen, Bevelt was asked to make cremas for a wedding. Guests enjoyed it so much that they wanted to meet its maker. They were surprised to discover a local boy who had learned from his mother.
The wedding brought new attention to his cremas and to Bevelt himself.
